Roma could fall short of a top-five finish in Serie A this season and, in turn, miss out on Champions League football next season. However, the future looks bright for the capital-based outfit after Daniele De Rossi’s promising start to life at the Stadio Olimpico.

De Rossi was a Roma legend during his playing career and looks hellbent on upholding that status as a manager. In 16 league games in charge, the former midfielder has averaged 1.94 points per match, steering the club back to the European picture after Jose Mourinho’s exit.

Speaking to the press in the build-up to Sunday’s clash against Genoa, De Rossi confirmed he’s on the verge of penning a new long-term contract at Roma. He signed a six-month deal in January, but after impressing the board, he rightfully deserved a long-term arrangement.

The agreement arrived in ten minutes, but everything must be seen by the lawyers. But it’s not a problem. It’s very close,” De Rossi said via Voce Giallorossi

In addition to renewing his contract, De Rossi will put his stamp on his Roma squad in the upcoming transfer window. Unlike some recent years, Giallorossi will invest more heavily this summer to back their high-performing manager ahead of his first full campaign at the helm.

With FFP everyone is influenced by income, for now, we haven’t talked about the budget, but we want to spend well and not necessarily a lot. There are many teams with an interesting style who don’t spend crazy amounts,” the Roma boss admitted.
